Hi
I am 5'8, with a size 8 boot, and have a 156cm wide board. Will this be a problem? I would rather not spend more money on a new board.

I'm guessing you have a deck that is 156 cm long, and female size 8 boots. Set the boots on the snowboard as per your stance and see what the toe and heel overhang is.
