Just read in the paper that there were about 70% boarders in the the resort I used to consider my 'local' hill. That's pretty high, isn't it?

I am from the midwest and at my local hill the percentage changes based on the time of day ands the time of season. Overall I would say there are about 35% snowboarders.

I'd say well over 50% of the people at Mad River mountian in Ohio snowboard. One thing that shocked me is how many of that 50% are girls.

well i dont know, at my hill theres a ton of tourists who come out for one day and ski, so i think our ratio goes to the skiers. if you take a look at the locals, were definitely snowboarders. the majority of skiers are older, but the new generation of snowboarders is runnin it. i hear were finally gettin a pipe

My mtn has the best park in the area so that attracts a lot of boarders, in that general area the ratio is like 95/5 going to the boarders dissipating out to about 30/70 in the more skier-oriented trails.

This would verify what I thought earlier:

The smaller / the less gnarly the mountain, the more boarders? I guess sking is way too boring on a small hill while you can have a lot of fun on a board...

Yeah, that's pretty high. But now it seems like EVERYONE is doing it. Snow sports are getting more and more popular, and when people are just starting a sport, they usually will choose snowboarding. I don't know if my resort is quite that high, but it sure seems like it!

Whoah 70% sounds high! Where is your local hill? They must have a sweet park...

At my local hill in Mass (Wachusett) I would say there is a solid 40%, if not 50%, mostly because it's a smaller, local mountain (not really a destination resort) and all the local kids there are into boarding.

If you go to a place like Wildcat, Attitash, or Cannon (do not EVER go to Cannon if you board. trust me), it seems like 5%, but just from looking around at most New England resorts I would estimate that it hovers around 30%.
