Anyone have problems with foot comfort, or otherwise breaking in Ruler/Ruler SI? I have about 12 hrs. total time in mine, and still getting pain over the instep. Will try wearing thinner socks, looser cinching, etc. but that can only go so far...

I'll appreciate any advice on breaking these in. They ride and respond great, but killer pain going up the lift!

Thx,

I never 'broke in' my burton boots. Comfy when not riding, but very painful when riding. I guess my odd feet was the problem. I guess SI boots are stiffer then regular boots, atleast my K2 Yaks where. I think I had about 20 days of riding before they softened to a point where they were nice on my feet.

I never had problems with mine at any point. You can leave the bottom of the boot loose and tie an overhand knot just behind the instep to let you tighten up the upper half without affecting the lower half too much. You also may need a customized foot-bed if you have a high arch or flat feet you could have issues with the standard foot bed. I'm surprised you didn't feel this when you tried them on. How are your toes? If they're still tight after about 2 weekends you may have gotten your boots a 1/2 size too small. I doubt it though since you're doing O.K. riding.

For a quick releif you can try releasing the instep ratchet strap (if you've got the SI's) on the lift up, that works for me if I've over tightend my boots.

Good luck. Bill

Even though the Y2K Ruler SIs have memory foam over the instep, the outside of the liner is still grindable/sandable. I have a really pointy left instep bone, and I use a dremel tool to grind a divot on the outside of the liner where the hot spot is. This gives it the 'donut' effect. No more problems.
