One of my friends just started getting into snowboarding and has ben only about 4 times. He wants to purchase a high end board by Burton. I was telling him that it is a waste to buy a high end board as a newbie. What do you all think about that?

Well it is really hard to say whether it is worth spending the extra few hundred for a high end board versus a beginner board. I honestly believe that it is not the board that matter but the snowboarder. But if he really likes the board and has the money for it then what the hell right?

My advice to your friend is that he should really look into getting a board with a good amount of flex in it. This is better for when you are starting out as it help you to get better. If this high end board has that, then I would say he should get it. Owning your own board instead of having to use a rental is always much nicer as you can grow to feel comfortable with your board.

If he is buying the board because it feels liek the right board for him and he is comfortable with it then it is worth it. But if he is buying it only because it is a high end board and he think that spending more money will give him a better board then some of the cheaper ones out there then I think it is a waste of money.

I personally think that some of the big name company's out there are over hyped and not worth the money. I would much prefer a board by a smaller name company anyday. He should get a board for all mountain types that fits his height and weight range.
