night skiing

Night skiing is the sport of skiing or snowboarding after sundown, offered at many ski resorts and mountains. There are usually electric lights along the piste which allow for better visibility. It typically begins after a resort’s skiing-day ends, and ends between 8:00 and 10:30 p.m. Night skiing is good for the for busy skiers who don’t have time to ski during daylight hours. Trails at night are normally not as busy as during the day, but there are usually fewer runs available. The trails also tend to be icier than during the day, due to melting and refreezing.

I’ve done a significant amount of artificial light snowboarding at Snow Summit during the winter of 91/92. There are some subtle differences. Some mentioned above.
Care needs to be taken during the hour or so between day light and when the artificial lights are the only/primary source.I personally had contrast issues. Maybe there are some glasses or googles that can effect this.
Snow Summit uses a lot of grooming and has sooty snow (maybe they are cleaner now) in spots from the snow cats. When riding a couple of runs or so on the frozen crystaline surface the greasy diesel exhaust comes off the base.
Snow Summit is in the desert in So. California. Deserts get very cold at night without cloud cover. Extremely cold for Caqlifornia.
Friday nights were busier. Sunday nights were great for less people if I remember correctly

im hoping to give this a go in france this year. thanks for the tips. i figured perspective may be an issue as it is in flat light situations during the day..

The first time I went snowboarding (two weeks ago) was at night. I just never seemed to to have time during the day, so I decided to just go one night after work. I realized right away that clear goggle are way better in the lights. My buddy had tinted goggles and he had a hard time seeing, but mine came with clear and tinted and since I knew it was going to be night I changed them. World of difference!
