Breezz, Great two days on the snow! Rode with my skier buds(and yes,I rode the board) on Sat. And with my son on Sun. Alot of practice and time to do it. That's all I ask. Next trip out, I 'm ready to lose the padded shorts. Protec makes some great ones. They have saved my tail several times. So anyone that is beginning to learn, do yourself a favor...get some. I know, your young, so when you read this it's like "I won't break"! Bullsh** I hurt everyday from that same idealogy from riding dirt bikes, skateboards, etc. And to answer your question Breezz, son says, I'm progressing well!

Ay Fritz..... don't open your keyboard (instead of mouth) too wide... you know those that brag get it on their plates afterwards

Good to hear oldboarder. If you can leave those shorts aside it must really mean you made a lot of progress (if you started from never haven ride a board before)

Hi to all! Sorry I think I took your name oldboarder...I figured I'd be the old man here so I picked Grandpa but I'm only 37.
Well anyway I live in Maine and was exiled to the southeast for 5+ years.
I switched from the sticks in '92. I generally ride at a little mountain called Shawnee peak because of it's feel and proximity. When I can get to the river or loaf I go but it's a haul. I rode for two winters before allowing life to get in the way and will now be enjoying my mid life celebration on the slopes.
Oldboarder just remind your skier friends that their yard sales and a.c. injuries are gone from your world!! Also remind them that they would probably not have a ski industry were it not for the snowboard bail out in the early nineties! Also just wait until you get more solid! You'll blow 'em away in the glades...heckthey probably won't even follow you in

After looking around at other forums(sorry Breezz) I find there are others much older than I that ride. Nothing like a bunch of old geezers taking up the fast lane at the local slopes! lol The day that I saw a grandpa and his two grandsons (probably 14 & 16 years old) rolling down the hillside is what really got me interested. I was impressed... I won't give up my sticks for now, I enjoy the speed too much. But I made a commitment to learn to board this year. I can't wait to get smooth.
Thats okay fritz100, Nice to see someone giving me some crap! Cause I would have done the same thing. Thanks for keeping it real. Grandpa, how is the riding in Maine. I know last year you all got alot of snow, but I figured you got the same icy slopes we do in the southeast except alot colder. If you can ride in the east, I guess you can ride anywhere.

oldboarder - it is our generation that 'invented' the snowboard (so obviously we must be knowing what we're doing ) - and we won't let this achievement be taken away from us

O.B. you're right if you can ride the east you can ride. I put Maine above all commercial mountains in the N.E. You just can't compete with Sunday River and the Loaf. I haven't been out yet this year...heck I'm still assembling my board equipment. I haven't ridden (or skied for that matter) any further south than the Berkshires so I can't compare necessarily.

I've never shoveled any driveway (have no driveway and no snow here) so wouldn't mind to do that if it means enjoying the rest of the things snow brings - like boarding

I skied about 50 times, and a about a handfull of lessons before I was 30. I only seemed to know how to point my skis down the mtn. when there was no bumps. Going in excess of 80 mph on a pro speed sking course on recreational skis (the bases were not even sintered) when the race employees were not there was not confidence inspiring, and not a smart thing to do. I used to go down about 2000 feet of vertical with no green runs used trying to go as fast as possible with no speed checking for hours.
To say the least skis can be faster and more stable. Now I'm older and realize it was not safe. I still miss the speed of skis. I have not down hill skied for personal recreation in about 20 years probably, but realize that skis can do things snowboards can't. Anybody know where I can get a cheap splitboard? They seem to be the best for backcountry.
