performance difference whatsoever between them and a good set of strap bindings. The only reason I switched "back" to straps was that I couldn`t find boots that fit well to go with them after my original pair wore out. If your boots don`t fit well you`re not going to have good performance no matter what bindings you have. My experiences suggest that good fit is even more important with step-ins than it is with straps. If you choose step-ins beware that your boots will probably go south first and you may end up in the same situation I was in.
Of course, if you are *really* into carving and control then hard boots and plate bindings may be the right answer for you. See
www.bomberonline.com - great site about carving - there are even some good hard boots on their closeouts section very cheap. I plan to ride hard boots this year except when I want to ride park and pipe... essentially, when there`s no freshie and the groomed runs are trashed. I find it`s significantly more challenging than riding in soft boots but when you rail a carve in hard boots - oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah!
