Can anyone recommend a ski resort with reliable conditions in early April? I`m looking for a large resort, with lots of terrain and good apres ski, which would suit a group of skiiers with varying abilities. At the top of my list is Snowmass (for its altitude) and Banff/Lake Louise (for its location north). It`s a little worrying that the season in Snowmass ends on April 14, despite its location and altitude in Colorado. many thanks Raschid?

Depending on the conditions at the time, Snowmass could remain open later than April 14th (unofficially), but this is a risk you would take (and not one that we would). Breckenridge and Vail typically stay open a bit later and conditions there are good - could be a bit slushy at the bases. Breckenridge and Vail offer much more terrain and good town life for apres-ski, shopping and restaurants plus other-than-ski activities as well. Vail and Snowmass are our favorities.
Airfares into Denver, servicing Breeckenridge and Vail, would be much less expensive than into Canada and conditions in Canada at that time could also be iffy by our experience. A lift ticket for Vail or Breckenridge are also good at Keystone (night skiing also) and Beaver Creek as well as Arapahoe Basin (5 mountains!), so you have a much wider range of experiences to choose from - all with historically good snow conditions.
Do you have specific dates in mind ??
We can provide some ooptons for cost comparison if you can advise how many people are in your party and what type of accommodations you require. Also if there are any children under 12 yrs old, how many days of skiing you would desire and how many nights you would plan staying.
We`ll be happy to help!
Sincerely, Dave Ragozzino, Executive Director, ASCA
