I apologize if my message is a little off topic. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good resorts (or web sites) for early March 2002. I`m fairly new skiing and want to make sure that I get some good snow. I`d prefer to stick closer to the east coast...
Thanks in advance, Isaac

"Isaac" wrote <> looking for party, family, or expert skiing? All of this will be available out West and in Canada at the same time, for the price of an airline ticket. If you are going, go big. Crashj `all the world wonders` Johnson

writes extensively on skiing, including _Universal Ski Techniques_ a fine book on skiing.
Most interesting, he has actually done experiments and published hard data. He built some instrumented sleds mounted on adjustable-position skis and measured such things as turning radius vs sidecuts, ski angle, and skier weight position. End those silly arguments about shaped skis by looking at hard data. Data is actually available!
Fascinating stuff - watch for his published works and snap them up, if you see them. I got my stuff at a psia conf decades ago. Amazon says he has only one book - _Skiing_, and Abebooks doesn`t even have a listing, but I know Twrdokens` got lots of extraodinary stuff out there.

I took the U. Nev. Reno (UNR) alpine ski class two years in a row whilst I was in graduate school. I remember seeing instructional photographs of ski technique (several overlayed shots of turning) posted all over the new gymnasium/pool/athletic complex, which I`m sure were part of Georges` research. on the UNR campus. Might be able to find more of his work there, and get some ISBN #`s. Thanks for the info. Last I hear about his daughter (Eva), she was a ski instructor or mountain tour guide at Kirkwood, but that was several years ago. My wife went to high school with her in Reno.
We were planning on being in Reno for Christmas 2001 but changed our plans, mostly for financial reasons, partly because of 9-11. Need to get back there and make some turns, its been too long...

Brian is exactly right, but I might add a couple of points:
1. Rain is always a possibility during that time of the year. You can protect yourself from this to a ceratin extent by choosing a hill in the northern regions and/or a hill with some elevation. 2. If you are a beginner, I would avoid Jay Peak. You can check the trail map for yourself at www.jaypeakresort.com , but blue runs like Northway, Angel`s Wiggle, Goat Run etc. are very busy.
Jay is my favourite place, but only in the trees trees. If I had to stick to the groomers, I would never ski there.
