My husband and I will be in southern California, and we are thinking of skiing for a day. I am an intermediate who likes long cruising runs. Husband skied 30+ years ago as a kid, but not since then. We are thinking of Mt. Baldy, Big Bear, Mountain High, or Snow Valley. Can anyone give me opinions on these or other ski areas around LA or Las Vegas? We`re looking for somewhere with easier runs that offers good lessons. We don`t care about after ski activities, just the skiing.
Also, hubby is only 5`8" and about 275 pounds. Will they be able to fit him with skis, given his height & weight, or aren`t they available for beginners his shape? I don`t want him to be embarrassed if we show up & he`s told that he can`t ski.
Thanks much for any info.

been there, so can`t otherwise comment. Check beforehand -- there should be links and phone numbers to all the local places here: < http://www.skisocal.org/ >
Unless you like huge crowds or have no other option, don`t go on a weekend. Almost all the runs here are blue or green (probably ALL classified green by serious standards), with the occasional short bump run or short steep run without runout classified as black diamond(s).
Re goodness of runs (missing numbers intended to provide appropriate quality separators): (1) Bear Mountain or Snow Summit. Nice mountain drive, more expensive. Nicer runs. (3) Mountain High (get $29 lift tickets at Ralph`s grocery stores; you may need to get a Ralph`s card.) Easy drive, mostly freeway or near-equivalent. East resort provides a long blue cruiser, with fewer boarders than the west resort. Free shuttle between. Probably more crowded than the Big Bear resorts, but that`s just a guess based on the fact that the drive is so much easier. (6) Snow Valley. Sucks, even if you break a chain and can`t go any further and it ends up being free.
And ignore the forthcoming advice from HH regarding losing weight and wearing a white tank top and orange shorts, he`s just having fun.
