Nice to see there is a person near Tahoe here.
Usually there are 2 main ways to slow down. 1 is to go uphill, 2 is to skid. Going on very low angle slope like the bunny run at Kirkwood makes it a lot easier. Maybe someone else knows of similar runs closer to where you are/want to go.

Thank you! This is only my second time boarding. The first time i seemed to get the hang of turning and getting some speed. But becuase there were so many freakin people at the bottom just sitting and standing around i had to dump to avoid hitting them. So i figured i might want to learn how to stop, LOL.

Thank you! I have heard people say skidding is like what i used to do on a skateboard. When you push down on the rear of the board and it should slow you down. I can go from side to side to slow down but then usually fall down, LOL

Having competent people watch you, and or using video to see what is causing the falling can be a first step to working on staying upright.

Steve you said you can turn a little so you now you turn on you heel side or thou side. So if you want to slow down put a little more presure on your heel or thou side of your back foot, not to much because than you will stand horizontal against the slope --> stop or turn araound. Like PerryRObray said ask a competent person to watch you and explain this while you are boarding. Normally the people I teach snowboarding can do this really quick.
Have fun take care!
ps don't forget falling = learning never give up

Thank you, sounds good! I won't give up i love it too much. I was a good skater as a kid and it does help out, but i can usually come to a skidding stop on my skateboard, LOL just by lifting the front part of the board up and slide on the tail of the board. Can you do that on a snowboard?

You mean buttering or a butter 180? That's nice for a starter
