roastbeef grabThe Indy grab is the ideal first trick.

The level of this grab is “beginners” so it is a great trick to master when you are first starting out. Once you get it right, you can vary by changing style (i.e. knee tucked in or leg straightened which is called “boned out”).

The base of the board should be flat and you should ride strait in the direction of a roller.
Once you get to the lip of the jump spring off it.
While you are in the air suck your legs up and bring the board to your hand. Do not bend at the waist. Grab your board between your feet at the toeside edge with your rear hand and lift your free arm in the air. You have just performed the Indy Grab.

Next you have to land correctly:

Release your grab and straighten your legs for landing. Land with your knees slightly bent to absorb the landing and continue to ride away. Remember that practice makes perfect. You can add the grab to your spins also.

Remember that “Indy” refers to a backside spin, so add this grab only to those spins and not the frontside ones. If you want to add a similar grab to a frontside spin then it is ok to do so - this is called a frontside grab. Learn to name the grabs correctly and you are the coolest rider around!
The Roast Beef Grab is a level higher than the Indy Grab. With improvement comes more fun too!
The board is flat and you are riding towards a roller. Get some speed and spring off the lip of the jump as high as you can. Suck your legs up and as far as possible. Grab the heelside of the board with your rear hand and lift your free arm in the air. Watch out! Do not reach up to grab around your legs as this is another jump called the Stalefish. But we are learning about the roast beef now. The only thing that remains is to let go of the grab and absorb the landing. Now practice this jump again and again!
