Anyone know if this system is very good? I was looking at a pair and was thinking about getting them but i don`t want to get them if they are more gimmick than practical. Any advice would be appreciated.

The BOA system is not a gimmick.. it is one of the biggest advancements in shoe lacing in my opinion. It`s been around for 3 years I believe.. you can read all about it at http://www.boatechnology.com . Some people love it, some people hate it. I personally think it`s the best thing since sliced bread. Quick, easy, simple, infinitely adjustable. No more frozen fingers from re-tying your boots in 0 degree weather. I have just ordered a pair of the Vans Fargo boots. I bought them online.. just to try them on.. once I try on the K2 Rival & the Northwave Sanchez hopefully I will be satisfied with the fit of one of those three and my ongoing boot search will be over.
There are 5 boots this season using the BOA system, they are: DC Stratus K2 Rival K2 Corsair Vans Fargo Northwave Sanchez

I bought the Vans BOA last year and I will never go back to conventional laces again. They are very comfortable and I get no heel lift. The BOA system works really well, and you get a much better fit vs. laces. FYI, I tried the DC boot with the BOA system, but it did not fit me well. I am curious to try the Nitro and Northwave.

The BOA is a very good system, especially on the Vans. Unfortunately, I didn`t get a good fit with any of the boots with the features I was looking for that had the BOA system. I found a pair of ThirtyTwo "Team Two" that fit perfectly though and went that route. If you can find a good fit don`t be worried about the lacing system, the BOA is very strong, convenient, and durable.

I've been wearing the fargo for 4 years now with the boa system. I don't know why anyone would wear anything else. They are the most comfortable boot and perform in any condition with the pssible exception of the park. I really wouldn't know about that. Easy on Easy off and as tight as you want them without loosening with the exception of boot pack after you have been riding 3 or 4 hours. Get them.
