What Is The Most Important Equipment For Snowboarding Other Than The Board?

The first thing to look at is the bindings. A good pair of bindings will last for at least a few seasons.

When purchasing used hardware, just look for the obvious defects: Make sure the screws attaching the high back are still in place and in general that all the attachments are in order. Look for stress cracks and spider webs around the heel cup area. If they are there then do not buy!

Next we have the clothing. You want your snowboarding clothes to be water proof! It is hard to check for this in the store, but if buying a used set, do not hesitate to drop some water on the clothes and watch is it slides off without the inside getting wet! Make sure the condition of the outfit is good when you buy it: Are all seams in place? Are zippers functioning properly? Is the finishing ok (no worn spots that look different from the rest of the material)? Check the jacket hip area, as there should be no cuts from carrying the board. Also check the pants for wear, especially at seat and the lower leg and heals. The best buy is to purchase the last seasons outfits at a discount from a reputable manufacturer.

Then we move onto the boots. The most important thing about buying snowboard boots is that they are comfortable, just like any other shoe you might buy for any other purpose. You must be able to wear them in comfort for long periods of time. Renting is a good start to learn the brand and shape you like, but in the long run buying your own shoes will save you money. If you want to buy used boots make sure that the boot liner is packed in. Check that the condition of the boot is good and that they have not softened up. Also make sure that the support is still good. The most wear occurs in the toe area, so make sure to check that all the seams are in place and watch out that there is not too much wear in the area where the edge of the broad rests on the boot. Make sure that the inner heel of the liner is not broken. If the boot has a BOA lacing system, then make sure it works. The wire should run smoothly without snagging and the wheel should turn freely.
