I am planning to go skiing over the holidays, between christmas and new year (12/25-1/1) and I am contemplating where to go. I like resorts in CO, right now air tickets are cheap but I am not too thrilled with flying right now. Crested Butte is on my mind, they have some reasonable packages, and having skied there before I know there will be no crowds. But you have to fly. The second choice on my mind is VT in the east (I can drive). I have never skied in VT and the holiday being the busiest season I am afraid that there will be unbearable crowds in the VT area from NYC, Boston etc (especially now when people are scared to fly).
My question is: How crowded do the VT resorts get at the time I am considering? Also, am I risking there will be no snow in VT at this time? I think there is less of a risk of lack of snow in CO. Which resort would you recommend as being the least crowded and best suited for upper intermediate-advanced skier? Sugarbush, Okemo and Stow are kind of on my mind. I would like to do some cross-country skiing to if available too (not necessary).
Any comments appreciated.
Thanks.
